New Medical Device Kills Lice in 90 minutes

There are two significant problems with traditional approaches to head-lice treatment. First, it takes a long time; and second, success is never guaranteed.

That’s a tough combination for parents, teachers, nurses and anyone else involved in the lice-removal process.

Whether using over-the-counter (OTC) products or home remedies, the same problems remain. Neither, if successful at killing live lice, will kill eggs (nits). Eggs are the primary challenge in lice removal. Live lice are relatively easy to remove. Nits are much more difficult. Nits look like tiny specs glued to hair follicles so strongly that they must be manually removed. This means that someone has to comb through a child’s hair, follicle by follicle, searching for and removing nits. If you miss any, they will hatch, and the whole process will start over. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends combing out a child’s hair every 2-3 days for up to three weeks to make sure that “reinfestation” does not occur. Human error, unfortunately, is always a concern.

Three weeks of near-daily inspections is difficult for parents and children alike. For parents, it is stressful and time-consuming. For children, it is uncomfortable and time-consuming. Nit picking combs are extremely fine-toothed, and for children with long or curly hair, the combing process can be painful.

The good news is that a new, medically proven lice-removal product has been introduced through Lice Clinics of America. It is the AirAllé, an FDA-cleared medical device that uses warm air to dehydrate and kill both lice and eggs, and the entire process takes about 90 minutes. The AirAllé device was found in clinical studies to kill live lice and 99.2 percent of eggs, giving parents a fast, safe, effective method of lice removal for the first time in generations.

The AirAllé was developed by researchers at the University of Utah seeking a better way to treat lice. Dehydration has proven far faster and more effective than OTC chemical products and unproven home products. The device works by applying carefully controlled warm air to the hair and scalp.

Lice Clinics of America has quickly grown into the world’s largest network of professional lice treatment centers. There are more than 100 clinics in the United States, with more added each month. There are also clinics in some 20 countries worldwide. Each clinic is staffed by certified operators of the AirAllé medical device.

Instead of weeks of meticulous, painstaking combing and nitpicking, parents now have a fast, safe, effective alternative. It is chemical-free and in most cases results are guaranteed to be effective.

It is important to remember that head lice are not dangerous. They cause only temporary itching and no long-term harm. They don’t spread disease and a lice outbreak has nothing to do with hygiene. Head Lice are mostly a nuisance—an icky one that that. The treatment process has been one of the main causes of the nuisance until now. Finally there is a scientifically proven, fast and effective alternative.
